Melksham and Devizes Liberal Democrats have denounced misogynistic comments made by the local Reform candidate, Malcom Cupis, as reported by the BBC.

In an online comment, Cupis accused a woman dancing in a video of 'behaving like a gutter slut' and referred to another woman as a 'malignant old hag'.

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate Brian Mathew said, “Comments such as these are appalling and should be unacceptable in British society and our political landscape.

“As Liberal Democrats, we stand for equality and inclusion. We want to see a world where everyone is treated with respect and no one is held back by any form of discrimination. If you share that vision, please stand with us.”

The Liberal Democrat manifesto includes a provision to make misogyny a hate crime and give police and prosecutors the resources and training they need to prevent and prosecute all hate crimes while supporting survivors.

The party also wants social media companies to publish reports setting out the actions they have taken to address online abuse against women and girls, and other groups who share a protected characteristic.

Brian Mathew added: "We also believe that people should reject Nigel Farage's highly irresponsible and misguided comments on the West and Ukraine and instead support the Liberal Democrats who have consistently supported Ukraine and its people."
