Trevor grew up in Somerset and attended Durham and Leeds Universities. He worked as an archaeologist, and in 1991 he married Olga, a Russian journalist, then qualified as a driving instructor. They settled in West Wiltshire, where Trevor was elected to the District Council in 1995, and has served as a councillor ever since.
