Jennie Parker, Deputy Mayor and Town Councillor, Bradford on Avon South
First elected to the town council in 2017, Jennie has made a special focus of the needs of older people, especially those with dementia and their carers. Working with the Dementia Action Alliance (DAA), which she chaired for 3 years, she has helped achieve recognition for Bradford from the Alzheimer’s Society as a dementia friendly community. She has been an active Community Emergency Volunteer (CEV) for the past five years. She also initiated and launched the Men ’s Shed project and has supported it through the early stages until a team was in place to run it. Jennie also runs the 60+ club at Aldhelm Court every Thursday afternoon. A retired social worker, Jennie has lived in the town for over 35 years and her family history here goes back several generations.
Jennie says: “I have been a Bradford South town councillor for nearly four years and have loved every minute of it. I have met and worked with some amazing people who, like me, love this town.
" I remain part of the DAA and I also have contact with many older and vulnerable residents through my volunteering with the CEVs. I provided independent support to people during the pandemic, either running errands or talking on the phone.
“The wellbeing of the people of Bradford is my top priority, as it has been for the last four years."
